OBSERVATORIES
The Fundación Observatorio PyME, along with the Università di Bologna, work together to promote the creation of a Latin American SME Observatory, with the aim of creating a sustainable mechanism for comparative analysis of the role of SMEs in the different Latin American countries, their evolution, and the impact of major economic transformations.
GENERAL PURPOSE
Creates a permanent, agile and continuous instrument to identify
opportunities for productive integration among SMEs in Latin
America and propose policies to promote integration.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
Provide of
rigorous quantitative and
comparable measurements at international and regional level
on the reality of SMEs in each Latin American country
To produce diagnosis on
productive and commercial opportunities and challenges of SMEs at the regional level and of each Latin American country
To carry out Industrial Geographies at a national level that allows the
analysis of trends in sectoral and territorial specialization in each country and the identification of existing single-sector agglomerations of SMEs (Industrial Districts)
JUSTIFICATION AND BACKGROUND
OF THE PROJECT
A sustainable mechanism for comparative analysis of the role of SMEs in the different Latin American countries requires the application of a uniform methodology using panel techniques on representative samples. In order to achieve a dynamic analysis of the performance and problems faced by small and medium-sized companies, it is necessary to complement the scarce existing information with agile, specific and comparable national data.
For this reason, the Latin American SME Observatory intends to produce data on the evolution of companies in the region. There is also the challenge of making these data comparable over time between the different countries in the region. Temporal comparability of the different aspects of the productive reality of SMEs between countries is necessary, both temporally and transversally, based on homogeneous variables.
